new year's eve

new year's eve was a strange and wonderful day.  we started the day with a family volleyball game.

my beloved

team younger
(maddie & tess)

team older
(lauren & alan)

maddie made a "sand angel" after the game.
this is what snow-deprived children do outside at the end of december.

--------------

the evening was spent at home.  each girl (except erica, who was away) invited a friend, or two, and we spent the evening making homemade pizza and having a tournament of games.

there was the stretching...
(tessa & adri)

 the flinging...
(becky, bethany, & lauren)

and the shaping of the pizza dough.
(beej & savannah)

with all the silliness going on, it's a wonder we ever made it to the cooking stage.

--------------
the most fun part of the night was our game tournament.  for four hours, we played a round of eight games, assigning points for the winners of each game, and keeping score so we could name a grand prize winner.  we played:

1. round-robin ping pong
2. taboo
3. spoons
4. egyptian ratslap
5. apples to apples
6. scategories
7. the "hand game"
8. "zip-bong" (nat, you should have been there!)

alan explaining the rules and point system

"the hand game"

"egyptian ratslap"

the scoreboard
(lornie won, the little stinker.)

-----------------
the tournament ended just in time for us to watch the ball drop, share a round of kisses and hugs, and make a toast with martinellis.  then, utterly exhausted, we called it a year and went to bed.

i wish i would have been there! oh that post makes me...happy, but sad too. new year's eve was spent on a plane, with the stewardess saying happy new year. should have been with you!

You guys had a BLAST!! I love that you had such a great round robin plan! We ate too much, made "mocktails", watched a couple of movies, had a good round of 'Lord of the Rings Trivia' and passed into oblivion. On New Year's morn, I tried to emmulate your Christmas cinnamon rolls, but they turned out like hockey pucks (the were devoured anyway)...I think my yeast has seen better days.

Loved your game variety, Julie. There are some rats I'd love you to slap at my house, but I don't think they are Egyptian rats. Haven't seen any of those gold chin things. My rats don't have chins.
