happy birthday madeline grace

13 years ago, maddie was born.

it had been an extremely difficult pregnancy that literally took me to the end of myself.  three months of severe morning (all day) sickness turned into a clinical depression, bringing with it a kind of darkness i had never known existed.

by the time she was born, i was doing well, and her birth was such a celebration!  after waiting for her for so long, she came so quickly that the doctor missed it.  (i think her dad could have delivered her.)  i'll never forget seeing her look up at me when the nurse laid her on my chest.  i was smitten.

as she grew, it became clear that the Lord had gifted her with a special spirit.  she was so in tune with me and with the rest of her family.  it was as if what we had gone through together while she was in the womb had shaped her spirit and made her wise.

maddie is an "old soul."  she is intuitive and insightful, and often sees behind the way things appear to what is really happening, telling it like it is.  the Lord has given her a tender heart for Him.  she is not a perfect child.  but she is quick to say "i'm sorry." and quick to say, "i forgive you, mommy."

maddie is a go-girl.  she lives passionately and loves to experience all that life brings.  especially laughing, loving people and eating chocolate. (last summer, after spending two weeks in russia with a group of kids at a summer camp, maddie decided she wanted to live there.  she truly did not want to come home, and begged us to move there.)

maddie, it is a privilege being your mother, watching you grow into a young woman of God.  you are one of my greatest joys and the biggest blessings of my life.

Maddie was always such a delight to have at my house. I especially remember so well, how dexterous she was with her hands, putting puzzles together, drawing and particularly in the kitchen, cracking eggs at 3 years old,as well as I could, and rolling cookies into balls, even better than I could and showing me how to do 2 or 3 at a time! She is soooooo loveable!
Love,
Mom

sounds like maddie was custom-made (just like your other swirlies) for your fam...she came at precisely the right time. and it sounds like she is already living out the great plans Jesus has for her. what an amazing future is ahead for this little woman of many talents!! and what a pleasure it is to have big mama's blog as a window into your sweet family. thank you for sharing, jerbi-dear!
