my new chain saw

i wanted a chain saw for Christmas, and i got it!  i've been doing lots of tree trimming these past few months and have realized it would take me hours with what i was using--one of those flimsy little saws on the end of a long, orange pole--to do what i could accomplish in just seconds with a chain saw.

i was so happy about my new chain saw, thrilled, honestly, until dinner time with the extended family when the conversation turned to what i had opened that morning and my family heard about my present.  they were mildly horrified, to say the least.  "i'll bet it's bigger than you are!  i knew a guy who almost cut his whole hand off!" then alan confessed that tessa, my 16-year-old, too, was worried when she heard what her father had bought her mother for Christmas.  "you're gonna be at work, and mom's gonna be home all alone trimming the trees, and she's gonna cut her arm off and bleed to death!"
oh dear.  i really don't want to traumatize my children, and i especially don't want to lose any body parts. but dang--i really wanted to use that chain saw!
i could take it back.
 should i?
what should i do about my new chain saw?

It seems like a fun present...just make sure that you don't hold it up over your head!

jerbarborist,
you MUST keep it!
david has a chainsaw that we use (we heat our house w/wood, mostly) and it is awesome! yours is so little and cute. i think you will handle it w/ease. i must say, power tools in general just pretty much ROCK. i am thankful to have a hubby with a garage full of them and the patience to teach me to use them properly.
p.s. i did not see any goggles or ear protection in that picture!!! don't forget those little items!

Julie dear - you had better let your sturdy mom come over to help and oversee! We were made for this, but are you sturdy enough?

Julie,

I agree with natalie. Keep it...and take pictures...just don't try and do both at once!

I don't think I've read your blog before, but am loving the mental image of you with a chain saw overhead cutting trees. Since you're still blogging I'm assuming it went well...
