out of the mouths of teens

this was the conversation i had driving home with tessa at the wheel--just 13 days (yes, she's counting) from turning 16.  i'm telling her about my appointment with the OB/GYN:

me:  "it's the dr. you have to go to every year when you're ..." (i pause for a split second, a very, very short time, mind you, and am just about to say "married" when tessa jumps in:

tessa: "old."

how badly do you want that driver's license, tessa martin?
