generations

we came home from whoville to a houseful of godshalls--matthew, natalie, isaiah and alaythia--which was a wonderful thing.  (this is the natalie who so faithfully comments on my blog.) we have known her since 1996, when her family left prineville, oregon to join the whittier hills pastoral staff.  natalie was only 16 when i met her, and she quickly became our kids' favorite babysitter. over the next decade, we watched natalie grow up.  the times we spent with her and her family were countless, the memories rich. natalie took a special interest in my girls while they were growing up.  she had tea parties for them, took them to spend the night in the dorm at master's college. she stayed with them for several long weekends so alan and i could get away, even nursing lornie through the stomach flu all night.

she and her family were family to us. and they still are.  and the family is growing.  isaiah and alaythia are here.  and my kids are the big kids now, the ones being looked up to.

one night my kids watched them so we adults could go out to dinner.  a new generation of martin/(hendrix)godshall friends.

maybe alaythia will one day babysit our  grandchild, or maybe isaiah will teach our grandson to play drums.

wouldn't that be cool?
