lost in transitions

june was a month that marked several significant transitions for our family.  it was a kind of whirlwind month, with all the events happening right on top of each other, leaving little time to stop and take each one in.  but it was a good whirlwind, beautiful, rich and full of joy.

June 12, Lauren graduated from La Habra High School.  It was such an incredible day!

after the cermemony with the old "parentals," as lauren (affectionately) calls us.

two and a half hours later, maddie graduated from 6th grade.  this graduation marks the end of our 15-year stint at whittier christian elementary school.  people kept asking if it was a sad day for me. although we had a great experience there and loved the school,  i answered, quite frankly, "No!"  as, after 15 years,  i truly am ready to move it on out.

squished in there between transitions was a beach volleyball tournament at mission beach, san diego.  grammi, uncle rick & aunt carolyn, who had driven down for lauren's graduation, were able to join us for the day with tessa & her partner adri and her family, the moore's.  it was a wonderful day full of volleyball, sun and hot dogs

uncle rick and grammi.

the next day was tessa's 16th birthday.  i got to take her and three friends to laguna for two days to celebrate.   these next two pictures will give you just a little flavor of what the two days were like.

katie, tessa, chelsea, adri
(i love that little adri-girl.  one day i just might steal her, when her parents aren't lookin')

hanging out with the seaweed-lady at treasure island beach

the next day, without any fanfare or drama, tessa and i made that long, quiet trip to the dmv, and tessa got her driver's license.

so that's the short of it.  within one week, we have a high school graduate, a new junior-higher, a new driver and 16-year-old, with erica and lauren leaving for westmont together in the fall.  as you mother's know, when our kids go through transitions, so do we.  we tend to live by the rhythm of their lives.  and i feel ready to live by a different rhythm, maybe a slower one.  in the fall the nest will be half empty, and half of the half i have left will be fairly independent.  but it is all as it should be.  and i am looking forward to the new that God brings.

Julie-
Thanks for the memories! There were so many events in such a short span of time, and all wonderful. It was wonderful to be able to participate in so many. You are indeed in a year of transition, hard and good all at once.
love you, mom

Yep! New normals all the time. It never changes. Sometimes it's hard to remember the old normals when you get so used to the new ones. We just love your "One-of-a-kind-girls" family!
