thanksgiving in august

i was at the end of my 25 mile ride early this morning.  my goal had been to ride hard, which i had, and now, i was almost home. the morning air was filled with the smells of the the grasses and trees waking up by the warmth of the sun.  my heart pulsed, and i could feel the blood surge through my body.  i licked my lips, tasting the salty sweat on my face--and just then, a bee flew into my face and bounced off me, just missing my open mouth.

maybe it was that, cooled by the wind that whipped around me, i felt so utterly alive, or maybe it was that after being on the road for a while, after climbing several really big hills, i was finally riding downhill-- fast--almost home.  whatever it was that the Spirit used to tap me on my shoulder, i was suddenly overcome with thankfulness for the blessings of my life. i have been given so much.  the Lord has surely poured out His good gifts on me.
