cheerios, bananas and the perfect love of God

breakfast conversation yesterday morning, alan's first day back to work at fidelity national tax service, where he left 6 years ago:

beej:  "are you nervous daddy?"
alan: "ya.  a little."
beej: "why...?  they love you."

implication:  if you are loved, you have no reason to fear.

is maddie onto something?  is this the intuitive version of 1 jn. 4:18--that perfect love drives out fear? that we have not received a spirit of fear, but a spirit of sonship (rom. 8:15)?  alan's coworkers are not perfect, and they cannot love perfectly.  but in maddie's 12-year-old heart, even their imperfect love--their relationship with him-- should be enough to ease his anxiety.  how much more then, is God's perfect love able to cast our fears away?  we are daughters and sons!  He has grafted us into His family!  His spirit lives inside us--the ultimate, intimate, permanent seal of our relationship with Him.

oh, that i could digest this truth as easily as i digested my breakfast.

Holy Spirit, please make it so.

If I am loved by a sovereign God (which I am) then everything that He allows to come into my life should not cause me to be fearful or anxious...

Thanks for the sermon Maddie! I needed that reminder!
