invasion of the snails

we have a serious snail situation in our yard.

they are everywhere.  covering the lawn, huddled up in little conventions on the curb, climbing up the front door, hanging from the eaves.

now i don't mind a random snail or two scattered around the yard.  gives me that fresh, botanical, circle-of-life kind of feeling that all is well with the natural world.  but this spring, it has gotten ridiculously out of hand.  multiply this picture by 100,000,000 and you will have some idea of what our front yard looks like:

can we get to our cars parked out front without crunchin'  a few dozen of 'em underfoot?  can we drive up our driveway without running over a few hundred?  unfortunately, no.  but at least they're outside, right?  or so i thought until yesterday morning, when i, still wiping the peaceful sleep from my eyes, thoughts of makin' french toast for breakfast waking up in my head, caught a glimpse of a thin, slimy trail runnin' in a wiggly line across my shaggy, hallway carpet.  i flipped on the light in the hallway, and, you guessed it, this is what i found:

just moseyin' down the hallway.  (it's camoflauged so nicely in my carpet, isn't it?)  mercy!

i think it's time for us humans to fight back and take a trip to the garden center at home depot.  what do you think?

OK let me just say I would FREAK out if I were in your position!! Ever since I was small I have had "fear" of snails. Short story. When my mom and I lived in a small apartment complex, we I was following her to the laundry room. There was a long sidewalk leading to the room. When my mom turned to make sure I was behind her, she saw me way at the other end...freaking out. She called to me and I would not budge. Why?? Because there was a trail of snails along the path and I would NOT even go near them! To this day...stepping on a snail is one of the nastiest things....UGH is right Sherri!!!!!
